Cost reduction example
The vertical LCDs for handsets were costing $12 each. The micromax people wrote the device-driver – a program that acts as a translator between between software and device hardware- and instead of putting up the LCD vertically, made it horizontal. The cost of the LCD dropped to $3.
Another example
A leading chip maker has a chip with multi-mode bands in the machine and micromax convinced them that for India, only 2300 MHz frequency is required. They have taken out all other antennas from the set and the cost was reduced significantly.
