A design advisory system can provide enough information to the designer to achieve this goal of designing right at the conceptual stage. A systematic methodology for design advising in a feature-based design environment is developed to identify problems at the design stage, and provide the designer the opportunity to correct them. Five pre-conditions are also identified for this methodology. During the development of the part geometry, a multi-digit code is added to every feature. Based on the code, all applicable design rules are checked as constraints and in case of constraint violation, suggestions are generated and presented to the designer.
