Unlocking Strategic Cost Management and Process Excellence
In a new article by Thomas Humbach - "Cost and Value Stream Engineering (CVSE): Unlocking Strategic Cost Management and Process Excellence" - he discusses how, in today’s competitive market, Cost and Value Stream Engineering (CVSE) has emerged as a transformative approach that integrates Cost Engineering with Lean principles, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and Value Stream Design (VSD).
Allow me to summarize. This methodology enables organizations to tackle financial and operational challenges holistically, balancing cost optimization with value creation.
Initially developed through hands-on experience, CVSE evolved to address gaps in traditional cost analysis by emphasizing collaboration with suppliers, transparency, and innovative solutions. Collaborative workshops and supplier engagement introduced Lean methodologies, fostering trust and shared learning.
These efforts helped create efficient, relationship-driven supply chains while laying the foundation for CVSE as a key strategy.

IE's are Really "Engineers Plus"
Production, personnel, management service, cost control, sales and other functional areas provide avenues of advancement in addition to IE departments. There are IE's who've become presidents of large corporations; where you stop is up to you.
