Operator Self Inspection Devices - Processing Operation Productivity Analysis Step

Part of Main Topic: Analysis of Items in Operation Information Sheet

Quality has to be improved in process. It is not be improved by inspection. The primary place for quality improvement is the process itself.

Operators have to inspect the incoming material or the workpiece. They have to inspect the outgoing workpiece. Every operation must have a poka-yoke device. Are these devices adequate to assure zero defects? Are they cost effective. That is are they effective and efficient? Always remember effectiveness first. Efficiency next.  In the productivity analysis step, the IE study team has to analyze this point.

Questions - Maynard

1. If accurate work is necessary, are proper gages or other measuring instruments provided?

2. Are gages or other measuring instruments checked for accuracy from time to time?
