This is the last lesson of the 365 lesson course on industrial engineering. The course has 12 main modules and there are sub-modules in main modules. The course received very good response, likes, comments, and shares. I tried to incorporate suggestions. I shall keep on updating the course materials in response to comments on the lessons or in social media shares. The objective is to make industrial engineering practice more effective and useful to the society.
The course lessons received 50,000+ views during 1 June 2021 to 30 May 2022. This is the second year of course sharing in social media. The third year sharing starts on 1 June 2022. All the lessons and modules are complete now and learners can read them at their own pace and choice.

The primary discipline that drives industrial engineering is engineering. Industrial engineering augment basic engineering in all branches with productivity science and productivity engineering.

Engineering discipline provides discoveries, inventions and innovations that help people to get new services from products and also help them produce more. The engineering inventions and designs are used in processes by process designers to produce parts and complete products. Industrial engineers evaluate the productivity dimension of each engineering invention and design and improve the productivity of processes and products over the life cycle. Thus, various engineering inventions and innovations are implemented by industrial engineers also in their company processes appropriately and creatively to increase productivity. In this process, industrial engineers may make engineering discoveries, inventions and innovations. Industrial engineers discover productivity science theories, invent productivity engineering solutions and innovate them. Innovation means applying them profitably in their company processes.
Industrial engineering utilizes many theories and methods of many other disciplines to enrich its work in the productivity engineering area. The subjects that contribute to IE include mathematics, statistics, physical sciences, natural sciences, social sciences. From social science we specifically study application of economics and organizations behavior (psychology and sociology). From natural sciences, we study ergonomics. Physical sciences have direct application in engineering.

Management is another area of significant importance for industrial engineers. Industrial engineers have to persuade managers, engineers, supervisors and operator to quickly install redesigned operations in processes. They need all managerial skills to lead that is to influence and manage projects once they are accepted. Marketing of ideas is an important area of marketing and industrial engineers need to acquire marketing skills to market their process improvement ideas.
