JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS
Job Description
Perform engineering activities in support of continuous improvement and optimization of operations and processes used in the manufacturing, assembly, test, installation and servicing of locally manufactured transit related products for the Transportation Systems Division (TSD).
Assist with developing proposals and estimates by reviewing manufacturing specifications and estimating manufacturing processes and costs.
Participate in make vs buy decisions related to TSD manufacturing capabilities and capacities.
Develop processes, procedures, work instructions, inspection check sheets and test records with the support of designers, QA, engineering, assemblers and testers.
Participate in the design and fabrication of specialized jigs, tools, fixtures, and measurement and test equipment for production processes.
Identify required specialized manufacturing equipment through periodic equipment reviews, analyses of capital expenditures, and the Division’s current and future manufacturing needs.
Act as a liaison for the MELCO-directed shop training for new assembly and test procedures.
Train the trainer for new assembly and test procedures.
Develop bills of material (BOMs) and incorporate them into the MRP system for use by procurement and production.
Perform and coordinate work flow/motion time studies for continuous improvement. Develop efficient repetitive manufacturing techniques.
Recommend improvements in all phases of manufacturing and assembly processes.
Participate in designing and implementing facility layouts, work cell layouts, improvements in workforce utilization, production cost reductions, material flows and production flows to optimize profitability.
Participate in the activities of the Safety Committee.
Further the goals and positive, professional image of the TSD Operations Department through interaction with other MEPPI Divisions and vendors.
Know MEPPI’s Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of these policies and how they impact work
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors’ degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with 3-5 years of related experience in light industrial manufacturing environment, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Intermediate knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.
Advanced interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees and suppliers.
Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.

Role and Responsibilities
The production operations engineer will serve as the primary resource to monitor, analyze, and improve manufacturing metrics for their assigned products.
Responsibilities focus primarily on the daily support of the production line, bottle neck tool group analysis, business process development, communication to shifts, report generation, root cause problem analysis, and the completion of continuous improvement projects.
Coordinate daily factory needs with global supply chain group and takes actions to meet daily customer shipment requirements.

Communicate product performance and supply forecasts to all levels of the organization
Analyzes factory capacity limiters to identify capital investment issues or equipment qualification needs.

Skills and Qualifications
4-year degree in Industrial Engineering, or related Engineering field.
2 year minimum experience post degree with demonstrated success in inventory analysis, production control, capacity planning, lean manufacturing, six sigma, or project management.

Preferred experience in real time dispatching and automated scheduling systems.

JOB PURPOSE:

Technical Mastery /Tasks:
a. Develops mastery understanding for all processes and uses that to deliver improved TE, quality, yield, and thru-put. This includes understanding the physics and chemistry of how the production systems are designed to function, their limitations, and the impact of variation on thru-put, reliability, yield/collage and quality
b. The PIE is expected to have a working knowledge of the following areas

h. Actively Participate in Production System Problem Solving for 'Tough' problems. The PIE becomes involved in problems requiring deeper penetration and expertise. This includes identifying and formulating the problem statement, developing potential solutions, prioritizing actions, determining and performing the appropriate analysis, and leading efforts through resolution
i. Ensure efforts are integrated and support plant TPM efforts. The PIE is responsible to ensure the changes and modifications made are consistent with the AM, PM and other pillar efforts
j. Lead the development of training material relating to TE, operational sequence of operation & the use of controls to regulate the process in achieving high TE / thru-put / quality
k. Manage/support TE Improvement projects where the PIE can add unique value. Provide project management services for selected projects focused on improving the TE/availability/reliability/quality/ yield of plant operations. They are, as any project manager, expected to complete projects within scope, at cost and on or before established timing
l. Lead the FI pillar for the plant. Responsible to ensure plant personnel are trained and fluent in SRC and 7-step root cause analysis. Track and ensure completion/compliance with all FI triggers as well as ensure we get to the true root cause
Qualifications/Requirements
Four years of technical or engineering degree required
Analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required
Process-oriented with the drive for sustainable results
Strong organizational skills
Leadership and management skills required
Highly motivated, self-starter
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Financial knowledge required
