Published 2 March 2020
In order to analyze the effect of graphite addition on the properties of vitrified bond CBN grinding wheel samples, different amounts of graphite (0, 2, 4, 6 wt%) were added to the vitrified bonder. When the graphite addition is 2 wt%, the refractoriness, fluidity, and bending strength of the grinding wheel samples are better than those of conventional vitrified bond grinding wheel samples.

This study aims to evaluate the performance of the interrupted grinding process of workpieces with a different number of grooves (2, 6, and 12) in CBN grinding and to contribute to further findings about the integrity of interrupted surfaces and groove flanks after grinding, analyzing surface roughness and roundness deviation of workpieces after grinding process. The diametric wheel wear and grinding power were also recorded and analyzed. The performance of the interrupted grinding process was compared with the continuous grinding process, i.e., for workpieces without grooves.

CBN generating grinding is an economic alternative to grinding with corundum.
In many applications generating grinding with corundum is a good solution. But in some applications it has some disadvantages and CBN grinding wheels are more appropriate alternative.
Grinding worm:
CBN grinding worms can be smaller. With CBN, dressing times can be dispensed with completely and therefore, cycle times and manufacturing costs can be reduced. A CBN grinding worm is clamped in and the grinding process begins straightaway—with no need to make corrections beforehand.
Test results of CBN: The unit costs of a test workpiece (m = 1.53 mm, z = 81 mm) included a special width modification with corundum at €4.25 with a cycle time of 114.6 seconds, while the same grinding process with CBN was €3.38 cheaper and considerably faster, with a cycle time of 78 seconds.
The number of producible workpieces per dressing cycle with corundum is in the two-figure range, it can occasionally reach well into the four-figure range with a CBN coating.

Grinding and finishing worm
Abstract
The invention relates to an apparatus of unitary construction to fine-finish gear teeth. The apparatus is a worm having first and second end portions and first and second outer surfaces. The first and second surfaces define a common tooth profile. The first end portion is adapted for grinding and the second end portion is adapted for finishing.

Internal Cylindrical Grinding Process of INCONEL® Alloy 600 Using Grinding Wheels with Sol-Gel Alumina and a Synthetic Organosilicon Polymer-Based Impregnate.

Abstract
The development of modern jet engines would not be possible without dynamically developed nickel-chromium-based superalloys, such as INCONEL® The effective abrasive machining of above materials brings with it many problems and challenges, such as intensive clogging of the grinding wheel active surface (GWAS).
The authors of this work demonstrate that introduction of a synthetic organosilicon polymer-based impregnating substance to the GWAS can significantly improve the effects of carrying out the abrasive process of hard-to-cut materials. Experimental studies were carried out on a set of a silicon-treated small-sized sol-gel alumina 1-35×10×10-SG/F46G10VTO grinding wheels. The set contained abrasive tools after the internal cylindrical grinding process of INCONEL® alloy 600 rings and reference abrasive tools. The condition of the GWAS after the impregnation process was studied, including imaging and measurements of its microgeometry using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), microanalysis of its elemental distribution using energy dispersive X-Ray fluorescence (EDXRF), and the influence of impregnation process on the grinding temperature using infrared thermography (IRT). The obtained results confirmed the correctness of introduction of the impregnating substance into the grinding wheel structure, and it was possible to obtain an abrasive tool with a recommended characteristic.
