Productivity Engineering - News and Case Studies - Bulletin Board

Productivity improvement of engineering products and engineering processes is based on ideas or engineering change possibilities. The engineering change possibilities have to be designed for the required form and strength and prototypes have to tested for satisfactory performance. There is productivity engineering involved in productivity improvement based on alternative materials, alternatives mechanisms, alternative design elements, alternatives production technologies and testing procedures.

The detailed engineering may be done within IE departments or the job can be given to internal engineering departments or external engineering consultants.

Productivity engineering

ChatGPT answer 12 April 2023

Productivity engineering is a field that focuses on optimizing processes, systems, and tools to increase productivity and efficiency in various industries. It involves applying engineering principles and techniques to identify and eliminate inefficiencies, reduce waste, and improve the overall performance of a system.

The goal of productivity engineering is to create a sustainable system that delivers high-quality products or services while minimizing costs and maximizing resources. This involves analyzing and optimizing every aspect of a system, from the design and development process to the manufacturing and distribution phases.

Productivity engineering professionals may use various tools and techniques, such as statistical analysis, process mapping, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies, to identify inefficiencies and develop solutions. They may also work closely with other professionals, such as operations managers, quality assurance specialists, and software developers, to implement these solutions and continuously improve the system.

In summary, productivity engineering is a field that aims to improve productivity and efficiency in various industries by applying engineering principles and techniques to optimize processes, systems, and tools.

Solar thermal cooking systems in Hostels

At Dayalbagh Educational Institute, three solar thermal cooking systems have been installed in the three hostels,  Each system comprises of 5 dishes, each having a 16 Sq m in diameter. The total average kcals generated by the concentrators in one system is 200,000 kcals / day, which is equivalent to 19 kgs of LPG. The system installed in the Girls’ Hostel is also equipped with water heating facility.

The solar cooking systems are also in use for boiling Amla and decoction of herbs for preparation of Chyavan Prash in the Ayurvedic Pharmacy of Dayalbagh during their lull phase. With conventional boiling process, there was a requirement of 80 Kg of Hard Coke and the process time was 12 hours. In steam cooking the process time has reduced to 3 hours with no expenditure on fossil fuels.
