Industrial Engineering - Lamar University

Graduate Programs

Lamar IE is dedicated to student success. Lamar has relatively low tuition costs, low cost of living, small class sizes, near many industrial employers in Beaumont and Houston, and tight connections between faculty and students. The department has several research labs to support graduate students.

Our faculty teach and research a wide-range of topics:

Manufacturing and Automation
Software tools including CAD/CAM, R, Matlab, SQL, Simio simulation software under a grant from Simio LLC, and Python
Data Mining, Optimization, Statistics, Quality Control, and Reliability
Project Management, Engineering Management, and Supply Chain Management
Safety, Human Factors, and Ergonomics
SAP and Primavera taught by Lamar University College of Business

Qualified graduate students (based on transcripts, GRE and TOEFL/IELTS) will be offered an out-of-state tuition waiver plus a $1,000/year general graduate scholarship. With this scholarship, the student only needs to pay in-state tuition, which is significantly lower than the full tuition. Highly qualified doctoral students are offered assistantships or fellowships with tuition waivers.

Corporate Strategy For Dramatic Productivity Surge - Ishikawa & Tetsuro - Book Information

Corporate Strategy For Dramatic Productivity Surge

Ishikawa Akira, Saisho Tetsuro
World Scientific, 07-Jun-2013 - Business & Economics - 360 pages

Corporate Strategy for Dramatic Productivity Surge deals with the very basics of productivity and cost performance — including abridgement of time, increase in speed, enhancement of capabilities, increase in sensitivity and precision, enhancement of efficiency and effectiveness, alteration of size, reduction of costs and increase in revenue, among others. This book consists of five parts — Introduction, Case Studies of Super Effects in Management Functions, Case Studies of Global Scale Super Effects Realized, Case Studies of Super Effects in Marketing Domains, and Conclusion.

The Road to Realizing the Super Effect — featuring more than fifty successful cases of productivity surge or super effects, including risk-driven ones. Productivity surge herein means a dramatic reduction of costs, at least by one-tenth, while maintaining effectiveness or discontinuous increase in effectiveness by at least 10 times, while keeping the costs the same.Cases highlighted in the book are instrumental and valuable for the organizations worldwide to evaluate processes, avoid unnecessary failure and work towards future success.

Currently, the top ten producers of cocoa in the world are Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon and
Nigeria in West Africa; Indonesia in South East Asia; and Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, the Dominican
Republic and Colombia in Latin America. The two main producers have a
considerably higher level of production than the rest of the countries.

Aerospace
The aerospace additive manufacturing jetliner has taken off.  The advantages of weight optimization for any object that leaves the ground are such that the benefits from topology optimization and generative, optimized lattice geometries, made possible by AM, were crystal clear.  This is even truer for objects that need to reach orbit.

Challenges to adopting additive manufacturing
Poised to disrupt the aerospace industry, additive manufacturing must first jump these hurdles.
March 1, 2019, Jacob Volen
GE’s turboprop engine combined 855 separate components into 12 and reduced the weight by 100 lb, improving fuel burn by up to 20% and giving it 10% more power

The largest part created by AM (so far) is a Boeing 777X wing-trim tool. Roughly the size of a large SUV, the part was 17.5ft x 5.5ft x 1.5ft, weighing about 1,650 lb.
