Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience within a financially challenged acute Trust in west London, working for the CFO and an experienced Executive Team. The Trust is transitioning from the Recovery Support Programme (NOF4) to NOF 3 over the next few months but still has a significant underlying deficit.


A key part of the role will be leading a team of project managers and analysts to support the organisation to identify and deliver a complex productivity and efficiency improvement programme that results in sustainable improvements in the financial position of the Trust.


This role will have a high profile and influential position within the Trust and the post holder will need the confidence and gravitas to hold leadership teams to account for delivery of financial improvements.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Productivity and Efficiency plays a critical role in driving operational excellence and maximising resource utilisation within the Trust. The post holder will lead the development and implementation of strategies to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and optimise operational efficiency across the organisation.


The post holder's primary focus will be on identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices to achieve cost efficiencies without compromising the quality of patient care. The post holder will collaborate closely with senior leadership, department heads, and stakeholders including, HHCP, the NWL Acute Provider Collaborative and across the NWL ICB to develop and execute comprehensive action plans that address financial, operational, and cultural challenges.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Skills, knowledge based and experience

Essential

Masters degree level education in an appropriate discipline such as healthcare finance, or the equivalent level of expertise and theoretical and practical knowledge of productivity and efficiency in healthcare

Extensive experience in operational and/or financial management, or business analysis, preferably within the healthcare industry.

Highly advanced understanding of NHS financial and operational frameworks, including payment systems, funding mechanisms, and reporting requirements.

Proven track record at senior level in leading successful cost improvement programmes, demonstrating the ability to achieve significant savings while maintaining high-quality care.

Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify opportunities for improvement.

Outstanding influencing skills, ability to communicate with impact and be able to convince through personal credibility rather than managerial authority.

Ability to contribute as a senior leader in the organisation to the corporate agenda and fulfilment of Trust objectives

Position Summary


The new consolidated Grievance & Appeals organization is crucial to addressing members and providers issues promptly and efficiently. We have laid out an ambitious agenda to improve the already high quality of work we deliver, while creating synergies across teams, and identifying efficiency opportunities. The Lead Director of Workforce Planning, Investments & Productivity Planning will be a member of the extended G&A leadership team and will have four core responsibilities:


Partner with Finance to create and operationalize staffing models to account for membership, incidence rates and productivity, and lead the monthly reconciliation of staffing models to financial forecasts.


Partner with MEU and MPPS teams to create transparent process for tracking and reconciling impact of new SAIs on incidence rates.


Coordinate development of annual financial productivity plan and lead tracking of delivery of productivity initiatives and reconciliation to financial plan.


Partner with Clinical Innovation and Investments on creation of business cases to justify capital investment, manage approval process, and track progress of approved business cases.


Required Qualifications

10+ years’ experience in health care, managed care, or health plan operations is required.


10+ years’ experience with financial planning, workforce planning, investment business case development, project management, or business process development, is required.


Proficiency with MS Office Suite Applications, such as Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, OneNote, and SharePoint.


Strong ad hoc financial analysis and productivity planning.


Project/program expertise in stakeholder facilitations, communications, and relationship management is required.


Preferred Qualifications


Excellent communicator and presenter.


Strong written communication skills.


Strong organization and time management skills.


10+ years’ experience managing, leading, and developing teams.


Experience with Hyperion and S4 .


Experience with Vendor Contracting and Negotiation.


Experience with Process Redesign / Reengineering.

Pay Range


The typical pay range for this role is:


$100,000.00 – $231,500.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
