Lean thinking principles given by Womack and Jones - Value, Value Stream, Flow, Pull and Perfection.
The explained, "Lean thinking. It provides a- way to specify value, line up value-creating actions in the best sequence, conduct these activities without interruption whenever someone requests them, and perform them more and more effectively."
The main emphasis in the lean thinking theory of Womack and Jones is flow. The focus is zero inventory production as the ideal. It is an explanation of the innovation made by Toyota people in production systems. Toyota achieved remarkable productivity increase through their emphasis on JIT and Jidoka. JIT is zero inventory production as an idea and JIDOKA is zero manpower production as an ideal.
Lean thinking Womack and Jones mainly develops theory for JIT production or flow production and adds other elements sparingly.
Lean thinking was augmented by many subsequent consultants with various additional activities but a good theory is lacking.
A theory built around high value product produced in a lean organization at the lowest cost would cover many more aspects of the production systems to provide guidance to production system designers, improvers and managers.
What is a Lean Organization?
What is meant by keeping the organization lean?
An organization includes all resources being used including human resources. Keeping resources lean means at the design stage or planning stage, productivity design is done and every resource is being used at its maximum productivity.
