Steam Engine - Productivity Science and Productivity Engineering in 1880

Allan Stirling presented a paper in ASME's first Annual Meeting in 1880 on "Practical Methods for Greater Economy of Fuel in the Steam Engine." He made the hypothesis that as pressure increases in the boiler - steam engine combination, the consumption of coal used in the boiler per unit H.P. will come down. The he presented his proposal to build a high pressure boiler. Thus productivity science and productivity engineering were both presented or illustrated in this paper.
